Free Program to Help Dallas High School Students Transition to College Life
High school juniors and seniors in Dallas are nearing the end of the school year and are facing that time when they have to make the big decision about college. In the past, many students had focused solely on deciding which school to attend, but with present economic concerns, students and families have many more equally important decisions to make.
The decision of when to apply to college and how to go about applying for financial aid has traditionally been challenging for students, but a new program through Dallas County Community College District and the Dallas Independent School District aims to alleviate some of these concerns and confusions. These two institutions are working together to put on an informative day filled with important facts and answers to questions for students and families through the Keys to Success group on Saturday, March 2, 2013. The event, hosted by Cedar Valley College, will be free of charge and will take place from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the college at 3030 N. Dallas Avenue in Lancaster. Complimentary breakfast is provided.
The goal of this half-day college fair is to help high school juniors and seniors, and their families, understand how to transition smoothly into college life. Through various workshops, students and families will learn about college admissions, financial aid and scholarship applications, and college life in general. There will also be assistance for students applying for admission to the Dallas County Community College District. And bilingual volunteers will be available to assist participants.
As the end of the school year approaches, the excitement level in Dallas is high, and it’s time to teach our students how to take the next step.
